How much does a Chinese confinement nanny in Los Angeles, California, earn
-
The current economic climate is tough, so here's a tip for women looking for work:
1. Get a US visa first; this is the most difficult step.
2. Study for or get a nanny certification. Other certifications may be available. The more, the better.
3. Fly to the US and work as a confinement nanny.
Currently, Chinese confinement nannies in New York and California charge around $10,000 to $11,000 per month. Yes, in US dollars. And you have to book in advance to find one. This salary includes food and lodging, meaning you have a net income and no taxes.
Of course, there are a few key points to keep in mind:
1. Ideally, you should have some education. Chinese American families who can afford this kind of salary often have a high level of education and income (highly educated families tend not to have older parents raising their children). This is a key consideration for them. Having some education makes it easier to communicate with the mother and learn American childcare practices.
2. If you're not married and have children, your learning ability is crucial. Postpartum care requires not only experience but also knowledge, especially when caring for a child, so knowledge is crucial.
3. It will be exhausting, so be prepared. This is a true 007 job. But after all, it's 70,000-80,000 RMB a month, isn't it?
4. Don't think about working illegally to earn this long-term. First, it's incredibly tiring, and your body won't be able to sustain continuous work year-round (each employer will only hire you for 1-3 months, and you'll be fired when the work gets easier). Unless you later transition into a nanny earning $4,500-5,000 a month. Parents might also be a little resistant to the idea of working illegally, as you'll be caring for a baby, so employers are wary of this. Parents generally don't hire young women as nannies long-term. Of course, a good relationship with the employer is another matter.
5. A better approach is to work a few months each year and then return to your home country or travel the world for half a year. This won't affect your US visa. :)
6. This job is actually very reputable and isn't a job for young people, unaffected by artificial intelligence. As long as Haihua women remain high-income earners, this salary level will likely remain and even rise. People aren't simply looking for price when choosing a confinement nanny; reputation and reliability are more important. After all, the cost is only for one or two months, leaving no time for trial and error.
7. Initially, you can rely on an agency to find an employer, but later on, reputation will definitely be paramount. Your education and conversational skills are crucial factors in choosing you, especially if you're not a referral from an existing client.
Some people ask, "What if I can't get a US visa?" Personally, I think if you can't get a US visa, you can also go to the UK, Canada, the EU, or Australia; visas in these places aren't that difficult. The income will certainly not be as high as in the US (I don't know how much confinement nanny fees are in these places), but it should be high. Logically, you're a freelancer who's traveling the world, so if you can't get a US visa now, there will be opportunities in the future.
I'm not saying this path is perfect, but it's not bad either. For women who are willing to endure hardship, it's better than many other options. At least it seems to get more popular with age. It's definitely not for everyone, but for certain people, it might be fine.
